Dr. Brenda Wilbanks

Dr. Brenda Wilbanks began her career as a teacher. She taught junior high in Denver, CO, and then returned to her hometown of Idalou, TX.  She continued her teaching career in Petersburg, TX, where she taught high school English for 25 years and also worked as an elementary school counselor.


During this time, she continued her education at Texas Tech University, completing a masters degree and a doctorate in counseling. She began her private practice in Lubbock, TX, and has continued this work for over 35 years, offering a number of specialized interventions.


The Haven Animal Care Shelter

In 1977, Dr. Wilbanks and her husband Joe established The Haven, a no-kill, non-profit animal sanctuary. Today, Dr. Wilbanks continues as the executive director of The Haven. The guiding principal of The Haven is “May we, God helping us, be part of the answer, not part of the problem.”
